Solar at the district's schools, and a lesson for its students

Central Columbia School District covers about 80 square miles in Columbia County. It draws about 1,900 students from one borough and six townships.

The district has a high school, a middle school, an elementary school and a district office.

The arrays are at the high school, the middle school and the district office, on the ground and on roofs. Together they offset 90% of the district's annual power consumption.

The district was keen to go solar. It uses the arrays to teach its students.

The contract: a 28-year power service agreement (PSA)

Central Columbia School District's arrays run under a power service agreement. SRE sets up each project one of three ways: owning it outright, a power service agreement or a power purchase agreement. Each is built around the client's tax position.
