Where the money comes from

A solar project earns money from four places. Who keeps each one depends on how the project is set up.

  • Savings on utility bills
  • Cash from SRECs, which we sell as a registered broker
  • State grants and rebates
  • Federal tax incentives: the investment tax credit (ITC) and depreciation

What a project like yours looks like

Our school clients' arrays range from 388.8 kW to 3,764 kW. All 5 use a power service agreement, and Central Columbia's runs 28 years. Schools also use their arrays to teach students about renewable energy.

How a power service agreement works

We set up each project around your tax position. You can own it, or use a power service agreement (PSA) or a power purchase agreement (PPA). All 5 of our school projects use a PSA.

The array is built on your school's roofs or grounds under a PSA.

  • A 28-year PSA

Central Columbia School District, Bloomsburg, PA: 3,764 kW of ground and rooftop arrays, completed winter 2022, under a 28-year PSA. Its arrays offset 90% of its yearly electricity.

  • A PSA on the ground

Tamaqua Area School District, Tamaqua, PA: a 2,500 kW ground-mounted array, completed fall 2020, under a PSA. Its array offsets 100% of its yearly electricity.

  • A PSA on a roof

Commonwealth Charter Academy, Harrisburg, PA: a 388.8 kW rooftop array of 1,080 panels, under a PSA. It makes about a third of the electricity the school uses in a year.
