Why the district went solar
Tamaqua Area School District is in the borough of Tamaqua, Pennsylvania. It has more than 2,100 students and covers about 180 square miles.
The project's 6,132 bifacial (two-sided) solar panels stand in two ground-mounted arrays. They were built to give students a way to learn about renewable energy. The district also expects them to bring significant cost savings.
