Solar on water the borough already had

The Borough of Sayreville's plant uses a man-made reservoir. Instead of using land for solar, the borough put the array on the water.

Why the water was the better site

  • Lower costs for the plant
  • Water nobody was using, instead of land
  • Less algae growth in the reservoir
  • The borough's land stays free for future expansion

The contract: a power purchase agreement (PPA)

The Borough of Sayreville's array runs under a power purchase agreement. SRE sets up each project one of three ways: owning it outright, a power service agreement or a power purchase agreement. Each is built around the client's tax position.
